Book cover design and typography

It was fun to design this book cover (which, coincidently, is what the book is about). It's rare these days for us to design solely for print.  The book is called The Science of Laughter, so using Arthur Sasse's famous photograph of Einstein sticking his tongue out, superimposed with a clown's red nose filled the brief perfectly - it almost designed itself!

We've worked on Laughology's design and website since 2008, when they were based in Liverpool City Centre.

They are a demanding client who require a bespoke design and marketing service, which delivers consistent results.

There have been a few tantrums along the way about how best to achieve those results, and it sometimes feels like we are their in-house marketing team. But we love working with them and like to think we have been a part of Laughology growth into one of the largest L&D organisation in the UK, counting some of the most significant technology, HR, and finance companies in the world as their training partners and clients.

Young Children's Tooth Decay Campaign

Design and branding for a public-health tooth decay campaign. 

We were commissioned by Food Active, to create a campaign on behalf of various North West health-related organisations, to raise awareness of the damage  'baby juice' can cause to young children's teeth. 

The campaign is centred around a series of attention-grabbing and humorous portraits of young children,

In collaboration with the client we created the images, strapline, and graphics, to support the central public-health message.

Branding, design, and build for Public Health Wales, Time to Move health and wellbeing website.

We were commissioned, by Public Health Wales, to create the branding and marketing website for the Time to Move initiative; an employee-centred initiative aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Public Health Wales employees, by encouraging them to use one hour per week of their regular work time to engage in physical activity of their choice.. 

In addition to designing the branding for Time to Move, we also built and hosted a Welsh and English language website, using the Joomla CNS. The site included a registration system, bespoke graphics and website metrics.

This conference bring together experts from a wide range of fields to exchange information on the latest research, policy and practice on protecting and promoting health in nightlife settings.

After designing the branding and website for Club Health Amsterdam in 2019, we were re-commissioned, by The Club Health Conference, to design the branding, website, and marketing materials for the 2021 conference, which will be held at the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du QuĂ©bec (BAnQ), Montreal.

ACEs

Illustration and animation for the Adverse Childhood Experiences animated explainer video.

We were commissioned by Blackburn with Darwen Council, in partnership with Public Health Wales, to create an animation, which would illustrate the physical and mental impact of repeated ACEs on long-term physical and mental health.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic experiences that occur before the age of 18 and are remembered throughout adulthood.

Repeated ACEs cause chronic ill health in later life: like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and health-harming behaviours such as problem alcohol use, smoking, poor diets and violent behaviour - and ultimately premature death.

We told the story of ACEs, and their physical and mental impact, by using an animated character, who narrated their own experiences,

The character talks about the ACEs he experienced from childhood, through to adulthood.

Don't worry, there is a happy ending!
