ALCOHOL AND A&E

Alcohol-related hospital admissions have risen by 22% in a decade, with the figure now standing at more than 1.1 million in 2015/16, according to data from Public Health England. This is 7% of all hospital admissions - 45% of patients were aged between 55 and 74, with just under two thirds male.

This booklet has been written and designed for people who attend A&E when alcohol has played a role in their visit.

It will raise awareness of the role it has played in their visit, the treatment they may receive, and offer A&E related information, help, and support.

Content includes:

  • What is alcohol
  • Alcohol and brain
  • How did you end up in A&E
  • Mixing alcohol and drugs
  • Alcohol and overdose
  • Calling an ambulance
  • Your next drink
  • Your alcohol use
  • Further help & support
